On March 10 at Legal Harborside we are hosting Cyril Chappellet, owner of one of California’s marquee wine estates. To call the wines from Napa Valley stretches the definition of the word, since most of the grapes are grown at 1600 foot elevations on Pritchard Hill, towering over the Valley floor. The Chappellet’s are one of the “first families” of Napa, and they have opened the vault for this dinner, presenting, among other gems, several ultra-rare gems only available to their mailing list. Among the wines are the Hideaway Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 (92+ points from Parker), the Signature Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 (91 points) and a library selection, the 2008 vintage of the same wine (92 points), and a new project called the Grower Collection for individual vineyard designates, (including the 93+ point Calesa Vineyard Chardonnay) as well as a Petite Sirah Port sold only at the winery. There’s a a huge amount of white wine in Italy, the image of Italy’s greatest wines is red. From the light colored but powerful northern Nebbiolo to Sangiovese in Tuscany, red grapes are the wine maker artist’s first choice for expressing what wine means to Italy. This class will taste famous Amarone plus affordable Ripasso from the northeast, then Barolo, king of the Piedmont. We’ll finish in Tuscany with three classic wines that explain Sangiovese: Prugnolo from Montepulciano, Brunello from Montalcino, and blended Chianti Classico.

Finca Allende means “Go Further” in Spanish, which is appropriate given the modern approach to Spanish winemaking including the use of French Oak for aging these wines. This winery, located in Rioja, Spain, was founded in 1995 by owner/Winemaker Miguel Angel de Gregorio. His family has been involved in viticulture and winemaking since 1672. Finca Allende produces only 5 single-vineyard wines, all in the modern style which are some of the most highly sought-after Spanish wines in the world. We are very excited to welcome this winery, including a rare Finca Allende 2002 Calvario Vineyard en Magnum, for the first time this year.
